Saudi group launches Independent Persian as part of its multilingual outreach

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) on Monday announced the soft launch of a new website, www.independentpersian.com.
The group had entered an exclusive licensing deal with The Independent, a renowned British publication, to create four new online news services: Independent Arabia, Independent Urdu, Independent Turkish, and Independent Persian.
Announced in July 2018, the deal recognized that these sites would be owned and operated by SRMG, though their editorial practices and output would conform to the standards, code of conduct and established ethos of The Independent.

The new website comes as the fourth phase of the project, and the group has announced appointing Camelia Entekhabifard, a veteran journalist and political analyst, as its editor-in-chief.
The Independent Persian has already been joined by a team of experienced journalists in New York.
“The launch of Independentpersian.com stands as the fourth and the last phase of our multi-lingual project with The Independent,” said the Chairman of SRMG, Abdulrahman Alrowaita, on the occasion. “We are so eager to have the new website able to attract a wider readership of Persian language to read a diversified content of very high professional standards. We do hope, with such project we introduce to our readership, the media and content creation industries will be enriched in our region and the world.”
