ISLAMABAD: Bahrain's foreign minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa on Tuesday discussed regional security concerns and trade with a range of Pakistani leaders, including the country's prime minister and army chief, during a visit to Islamabad.
Khalifa called on army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed the security situation in the region, the army's media wing said in a statement.
“The visiting dignitary acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s contributions for conflict prevention in the region and also pledged to keep working for better relations between the two brotherly countries,” the statement said.
A statement from the office of the Pakistani president said the two leaders discussed trade ties among several other issues, and President Arif Alvi stressed on avenues to boost bilateral trade.
“He underlined that Bahrain can import food grains, fresh vegetables/fruits, dairy and meat products, textiles, leather goods, furniture, and surgical instruments from Pakistan,” the statement said, adding that the Bahrain foreign minister appreciated the constructive role played by Pakistanis living in Bahrain in the economic development of the country while Alvi pushed for more jobs for skilled Pakistanis in Bahrain.
Alvi also expressed his satisfaction over the signing in 2018 of the Agreement on Military Cooperation between Bahrain and Pakistan, which covers all areas of defense, and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to enhance bilateral security ties.
On Monday, Khalifa had met his Pakistan counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in Islamabad and signed memoranda of understanding to prevent double taxation and tax evasion.
