ISLAMABAD: In a first, a Pakistani and Saudi minister swapped messages in Arabic and Urdu respectively, during a Twitter exchange on Friday that paid homage to both countries’ strong cultural ties.
Pakistan’s Information Minister Fawad Hussain Chaudhry wrote tweets translated into Arabic praising the Saudi culture minister Prince Bader Al Saud, who he referred to as a “frontline warrior of HRH Mohammad Bin Salman for his vision of cultural revolution in KSA,” following a two-day visit to Riyadh where he attended a ceremony highlighting new Saudi cultural initiatives.
In another tweet translated into Arabic, Chaudry spoke of his meeting with Princess Reema Bander Al-Saud, and described her as an “impressive princess” who “truly reflects the women inclusion in strategic affairs of kingdom.”
In response to Chaudry’s Twitter messages, Prince Badar wrote back in Urdu, thanking the Pakistani minister for participating in the ceremony, and highlighting the depth of relations that existed between the two friendly countries.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have always enjoyed a cordial relationship, but their diplomatic engagements have significantly increased since Prime Minister Imran Khan chose Saudi Arabia for his first international visit.
Since the beginning of Khan’s tenure, Saudi Arabia has given Pakistan $3 billion to address a balance of payments crisis and signed $20 billion worth of investment deals during a state visit by crown prince Mohammad Bin Salman in February.
