RIYADH: Children’s safety came under the spotlight at a special event held in the Saudi capital on Sunday to celebrate World Civil Defense Day.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense in Riyadh marked the international occasion by promoting several safety awareness programs.
Under the theme “Children’s safety is our goal” the event in Riyadh Park was attended by the undersecretary of Riyadh Region, Dr. Faisal Al-Sudairy, and Saudi Civil Defense director-general, Lt. Gen. Sulaiman Al-Amro.
The director of Civil Defense in Riyadh, Gen. Saad Al-Rajeh, said the day was celebrated around the world every year on March 1 to highlight the importance of prevention and self-protection measures in the event of accidents or disasters.
He added that this year’s focus on children’s safety aims to promote the role of Civil Defense and civil protection agencies in spreading the safety message among a section of society statistically shown to be most at risk.
Al-Rajeh also noted the support given to Civil Defense by the Saudi leadership through programs such as workforce development, strategic planning, and the promotion of preventive safety procedures.
