JEDDAH: The jubba, one of the most important traditional Saudi garments worn by the people of Al-Baha region in the pre-Islamic era, has attracted many visitors at the 33rd Janadriyah Festival.
Rich history
Visitors are introduced to the region’s clothing, its cultural diversity and its rich history. The jubba is a loose garment that covers the entire body and is made of manually spun silk or white sheep’s wool. It may be open from the front and have two long sleeves with ribbons adorning its sides from top to bottom.
The sleeves may be a golden color decorated with thin red lines. But the people of Al-Baha no longer wear the jubba except on certain occasions such as weddings and when participating with folk groups that perform the southern ardah dance.
