RIYADH: Saudi Arabia air defense forces have intercepted and shot down a ballistic missile fired by Houthi militia toward the city of Jazan.

According to a statement from Arab coalition spokesman Col. Turki Al-Maliki, the air defense forces were able to intercept and destroy the missile, which was launched to target civilian areas in the city.

Al-Maliki added that these hostile actions by the Houthi militia proved the Iranian regime's involvement with, and support for, the militia. It also continued to threaten the security of the Kingdom and regional and international security.

The attack is the latest in a series of missile launches targeting densely populated residential areas of Saudi Arabia, including Najran, close to the border with Yemen.
