CAIRO: Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Egypt, Osama bin Ahmed Nuqali, has warned of a wide-scale spread of “ghost sites” that promote pilgrimage season each year, using various social networking platforms.
Ambassador Nuqali, who is also his country’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, said these social networking platforms include Whatsapp, Facebook, and Twitter, among others, and are aimed at circumventing and cheating the public.
Ambassador Nuqali said, in a press statement issued by the Embassy’s Information Center on Saturday, that these sites “are fake and operate outside the framework of channels and offices approved by the Saudi Arabian and Egyptian governments.”
He stressed the need to be wary of these phantom ads and warned the public not to fall prey to them.
