ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s 105.96 million registered voters are expected to go to polling stations on Wednesday to elect candidates competing for 272 seats in the 342-seat National Assembly, the lower house of Parliament.
The 272 seats are open for direct elections, with the remaining 70 seats reserved for women and non-Muslims (60 for women and 10 for non-Muslims).
More than 11,800 candidates are contesting 272 National Assembly seats and 577 seats in four provincial assemblies, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Punjab, the most populous province with 141 National Assembly seats, will play a key role in the formation of a government.
Sindh province has 61 seats, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 39, Balochistan 16, the former tribal areas 12 and Islamabad three.
