ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz has said she will return to Pakistan on the first flight available as soon as her mother’s health improves.
She was speaking to the media infront of the medical facility where her mother is admitted in London on Wednesday. “My sole concern is my mother right now,” she said.
Three-time First Lady Kulsoom Nawaz was admitted to the Harley Street Clinic in London after she had a cardiac arrest on June 14, and has been on life support in the clinic since then. Upon hearing of the attack, deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam flew to London the same day.
Earlier, while speaking to the media in London, Nawaz said he would not be able to participate in the electoral campaign for the 2018 general election owing to the health of his wife.
“I have certain responsibilities toward her,” he said last week.
On June 26, the accountability court exempted Nawaz and Maryam from personal appearances for an additional three days as they said they could not attend the proceedings because of the critical health condition of Kulsoom.
Begum Kulsoom was admitted to hospital in London in August last year after doctors discovered she was suffering from throat cancer. She has been undergoing treatment since.
Maryam will contest the forthcoming elections from Lahore’s NA-127 and PP-173.
“There are times in your life when relations take precedence over everything,” she added.
