CAIRO: Egypt’s national football team has arrived in Russia ahead of the World Cup due to start on Thursday.
The team left Cairo’s International Airport earlier dressed in dark navy blue formal suits paired with white sneakers.
Pictures published on the Arabic Twitter account of the FIFA World Cup showed the delegation arriving in Grozny Airport.
The Egyptians arrive five days before their first match against Uruguay, which is due to take place on Friday.
"The Pharaohs", as the national team players are called, will then meet Russia on June 19 at 8pm before ending the group stage with a match against Saudi Arabia on June 25 at 4pm.
This is Egypt's first appearance at the finals in 28 years.
"The team is ready for the competition and morale is high," national team manager Ihab Leheta told AFP at the Grozny Airport.
