Saudi Arabia beaten by Peru in World Cup warm-up match
  • Green Falcons lose 3-0
  • Coach Pizzi set to name his 23-man squad on Monday

Saudi Arabia's World Cup preparations suffered a blow when they were soundly beaten by Peru in a friendly in Austria.
The game against the Peruvians was organised to give the Green Falcons a South American taste of what is to come against Group A opponents Uruguay, but Juan Antonio Pizzi's side came up well short.
Andre Carrillo scored the first after 20 minutes and then captain Paolo Guerrero celebrated being cleared to play at the World Cup following a doping ban with goals on 41 and 64 minutes.
While Pizzi will be disappointed to be beaten so heavily so close to the World Cup opener against Russia on June 14 and fail to find the back of the net, he will take comfort from the fact that this was not his first-choice side and that Peru are ranked 11 in the world and now unbeaten in 14 matches.
Fielding a largely second-string team will have given Pizzi the chance to run the rule over players on the fringe of the first-choice XI and given him clarity of thought ahead of naming his 23-man squad on Monday.
