ISLAMABAD: A group of militants targeted a Frontier Corps (FC) Madadgar (or Help) Center on Thursday night in the latest terrorist attack in the southwestern Pakistani city of Quetta.
According to local news channels, it happened near the Chaman Housing Scheme shortly after iftar. Residents reported hearing a few explosions followed by intermittent gunfire.
The military’s Inter-Services Public Relations department said security forces foiled the attack at the help center and were clearing the area. The terrorists entered the facility in a vehicle packed with explosives, it added, but vigilant FC soldiers repulsed their attack and killed all the militants.
The military said the attempted attack was in response to the killing of high-profile militant targets in the Kili Almas area the previous night. However, the situation was under control, it added, though four soldiers were injured during the confrontation.
Local news channels reported that the FC, police and other law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the area. Security forces also launched a search operation in the neighborhood as part of their routine procedure.
