Al-Hilal land Saudi Arabia volleyball treble by winning Elite Championship
  • Riyadh club beat Al-Ahli by six sets to nil over two legs
  • Title adds to the Saudi League and Saudi Cup

Al-Hilal confirmed themselves as the dominant volleyball side in the Kingdom by winning their third title of a hugely successful season on Monday.

The team beat Al-Ahli, their big rivals, by three sets to nil in the second leg of the final round of the Elite Championship at the arena of the General Sports Authority in Riyadh. Al-Hilal also whitewashed Al-Ahli in the first leg, confirming their superiority.

Chairman of the Saudi Volleyball Federation, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Babtain, was present as Waldo Kantor’s side added the title to the Saudi League crown and the Saudi Cup they won earlier this year. It was further celebration for the Riyadh-based club as the football team won the Saudi Pro League title on the final day of the season, pipping Al-Ahli to the title by a point.

The victorious Al-Hilal basketball team included Ahmad Al-Bekhayet, Khalil Hajji, Muwaffaq Al-Motairi, Hassan Al-Wathlan, Abdulaziz Al-Harbi, Fahad Masoud, Abdullah Al-Zahrani, Abdulrahman Al-Dawsari, Nawaf Al-Bekhayet, Mohammad Bakr, Raidel Poey and Hiroshi Centelles.

The team are coached by Kantor who represented Argentina at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. He has been in charge of Al-Hilal since September after coaching spells in Italy, Spain, Brazil, Colombia, and Argentina.
