DUBAI: American DJ-producer Ahzee has added an interesting twist to his recently released new album “Addict” — an Arabic-language dance track.

“Beybosso” features UAE-based Egyptian singer-songwriter Sarah El-Gohary on vocals.

Gohary told Arab News that Ahzee had contacted her after seeing her latest music video “High” and expressed an interest in working with her.

“We exchanged music, talked, and basically became virtual friends,” Gohary said. “We still didn’t meet in person. That’s the beauty of the era we live in: Everything is at your fingertips. I know this is just the beginning of a lasting friendship, with more collaborations to come. He’s so talented and very dedicated. Working with him made me feel alive because I knew I wasn’t the only one who loved music so much.”

“Beybosso” is an up-tempo EDM track — something of a departure from Gohary’s usual style, she explained: “I only tapped into the EDM industry recently. Most of my songs are produced working with actual instruments, so the major difference here is introducing an electronic Arabic sound.”

The pair had a “Skype brainstorm” to come up with a lyrical theme for the track.

“We wanted to find a topic that complimented the music and, at the same time, (related to) something we both went through,” Gohary said. “Songs that come straight from the heart go straight to the heart, right? We both felt the music was powerful with a twist, and Ahzee shared a story with me about haters — or those who dislike the fact that you’re successful, that you’re unstoppable. They try to distract you, to bring you down, to surround you with negative vibes. I related to that. We all go through this situation, and, really, it’s nothing but proof that you’re succeeding. That’s what ‘Beybosso’ is about. The literal meaning is ‘Looking at me.’ Because, yes, they are looking at you. Keep shining!”
