ISLAMABAD: China’s largest e-commerce company, Alibaba Group, expressed its interest in establishing business in Pakistan.
The Executive Chairman of Alibaba Group, Jack Ma, called on Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on the sidelines of Boao Forum for Asia on Tuesday, in China.
“Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi congratulated Alibaba Group for joining the ranks of companies valued at more than $500 billion,” PM Abbasi’s office said in a statement late on Tuesday night.
Prime Minister Abbasi welcomed Alibaba to start business in Pakistan and invited Ma to visit the country, the statement said.
Ma briefed PM Abbasi on the performance, achievements, and future targets of the Alibaba Group.
The Prime Minister was also apprised of the online trade, micro-financing and public welfare activities of the group.
Ma appreciated Pakistan’s potential in benefiting from the technologies offered by his company.
The Pakistan Prime Minister said that Alibaba’s impressive performance was an indication of the opportunities available in the digital age.
He informed Ma that Pakistan’s e-commerce market was expected to grow in the near future. He added that the highly skilled Pakistani human resource was a power resource for development of the digital economy.
