JEDDAH: King Salman stressed the need to move the Middle East peace process in an international effort, stating the Kingdom’s committed position on the Palestinian cause to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Chaired the Cabinet’s session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh on Tuesday, the king briefed the Cabinet on the telephone call made to US President Donald Trump during which the two countries stressed their firm positions on a number of regional and international issues, the Kingdom’s firm position toward the Palestinian cause, and the president’s commanding of the official visit of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the US, with its major agreements benefiting the two friendly countries.
The two leaders also discussed the importance of the fight against the terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria. King Salman also stressed the need to find a solution to the Syrian crisis. The Russian-backed Syrian regime has been fighting different factions of Syrian rebels over the past seven years.
On Yemen, King Salman expressed his appreciation for the statement issued by the White House and its strong stance toward the Houthi militia, which continues its aggression with Iranian support. He also stressed the Kingdom’s efforts to find a political solution to the Yemeni crisis and provide humanitarian relief and support to its people.
Trump also addressed Iran’s attempts to destabilize the region, praising the Saudi Arabia’s role in achieving stability and efforts in this regard.
At the outset of the session, the Cabinet expressed its appreciation for the king’s approval of what has been submitted by the crown prince to disburse a financial reward for Saudi students on scholarships as well as students studying at their own expenses at universities around the world, and joining students studying at their expenses who have completed the necessary conditions with the educational mission within Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Program for Foreign Scholarship.
The Cabinet affirmed that this is an extension of initiatives embodying the wise leadership’s concern for the future of male and female students and support for their educational processes, and its belief in the importance of the educational achievement in developed countries to advance development in various fields and disciplines.
The Cabinet commended the meetings held by the crown prince and his accompanying delegation during his visit to the US with a number of senior officials and executives of major international companies to enhance the prospects of trade, investment and technical cooperation between the two countries in a number of joint programs and development projects in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.
In the local arena, the Cabinet praised the care given by the leadership to the Two Holy Mosques, and the Grand Holy Mosque’s project represented in the maintenance of Zamzam well and the surrounding area, which reflects the continuation of the comprehensive development being witnessed in Makkah region and the Kingdom’s commitment to the care and development of the Two Holy Mosques and Holy Sites for pilgrims and visitors, and associated integrated facilities.
