CAIRO: Prosecutors in Egypt have ordered a 16-year-old suspect to be detained for 15 days during ongoing investigations into accusations he raped and murdered a 4-year-old girl who lived in his village, local media have said.
The news of Rodayna Abdou’s fate has shocked Egyptians across the country, with many highlighting the case’s resemblance to that of murdered Pakistani youngster Zainab Ansari, who suffered a similar fate.
Egyptian newspapers said the four-year-old’s father reported his daughter missing on Saturday to police in the village of Qwesina, in the governorate of Menofia.
Police, along with village residents, searched for the young girl until they discovered “traces of blood” outside a house in the neighborhood.
They decided to search the house despite the owner’s refusal to allow them into his property.
The owner’s 16-year-old son, identified in media reports as “Hassan S,” then confessed to luring the young girl, who was playing outside her house, to join him.
Hassan is alleged to have “attempted to touch parts of her body” while covering her mouth, so “no one could her screams,” reports said.
He is accused of stabbing Rodayna multiple times using a kitchen knife that led to her death. The suspect is said to have then hid her body inside a closet, with a plan to dump the body.
The girl’s father was reportedly quoted as saying that he also wants the suspect’s father to be charged in the same crime for attempting to cover up for his son by not allowing them into the house to investigate.
