JEDDAH: Actress and singer Nicole Saba has rejected claims that her performance in the drama series “Sons of Nine (Wlad Tesa)” imitates a film role by fellow Lebanese performer Haifa Wehbe.
In “Sons of Nine,” Saba takes on the character of twin sisters Noha, who lives in Egypt, and Yara, living in Lebanon.
Saba has faced criticism that the role echoes Wehbe’s performance in the film “Mariam,” which also focuses on twins.
In an interview with Zahrat Al-Khaleej, a UAE women’s lifestyle magazine, Saba said that taking on the role of twins is not exclusive to Wehbe or any other actor. Many other actresses have portrayed twins, including the Egyptian star Layla Alway in “Twins” and Sumaya El-Khashab in “Hadf Bahr.”
Saba said the storyline of “Sons of Nine” attracted her to the role.
The actress said she was eager to diversify her work in a variety of settings, saying actors should be willing to take on new roles to satisfy viewers hoping for extraordinary performances.
