DUBAI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Abu Dhabi on Saturday evening.
He was received by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, at his residential palace. The Indian leader is to attend a banquet in the Emirati capital.
Soon after his arrival, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed tweeted: “We warmly welcome our state guest and valued friend, the Indian Prime Minister H.E. @narendramodi to the UAE. His visit reflects our longstanding historical ties and is testament to our friendly bilateral relationship.” Pictures of the two leaders embracing each other was widely shared on social media.
On Sunday, the Indian leader will witness the groundbreaking ceremony of a temple in Abu Dhabi as well as address the Indian community in the country.
Modi will also deliver a keynote speech at the World Government Summit, where India is a guest of honor this year.
Around 12-14 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) are scheduled to be signed between both nations after the talks.
This is the second visit of Indian prime minister during his tenure. Last time, he visited UAE in 2015.
