LAHORE: Grammy Award-winning musician Diplo is heading back to Pakistan following an extremely successful whirlwind concert in the country in 2015. Invited to perform by Islamabad-based musicians and producers Adil Omar and Talal Qureshi — the duo behind the Sonic Nocturnal Kinetic Movement (SNKM) — Diplo will be returning to the city to perform on Feb 3 and has announced that proceeds from the concert will go toward an organization that fights child abuse in Pakistan.
Diplo, who real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, will not be coming alone, however. This time around he is bringing with him Major Lazer, the dancehall music group comprised of himself and DJs Jillionaire (Christopher Leacock) and Walshy Fire (Leighton Paul Walsh).
The group has produced a number of chart topping songs, including “Lean On,” “Run Up,” and “Cold Water,” a collaboration with Justin Bieber. Diplo, whose career spans more than a decade, covers genres from EDM to hip hop and dance music and has produced music for a number of artists, including Tinie Tempah, Britney Spears, Madonna, Shakira, Beyoncé, No Doubt, Usher, Wale, Big Sean, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Ellie Goulding, Sean Paul and M.I.A.
The concert is taking place on the heels of national outcry following the rape and murder of six-year-old Zainab Ansari and the country’s apparent mismanagement of child abuse, rape and murder in the city of Kasur. In light of this, Major Lazer’s official twitter account posted where to buy tickets and added that proceeds from the concert will go to the Sahil Organization that fights child abuse in Pakistan.
