The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said the conflict in the Kurdish enclave in Syria known as Afrin highlights the need to rebuild the concept of Arab national security.
Anwar Gargash tweeted: “The developments surrounding Afrin reaffirm the necessity of working to rebuild and restore the concept of Arab national security on a realistic and contemporary basis. Without that, the Arabs will be marginalized.”
Turkish ground troops entered Syria on Sunday as part of an operation called “Olive Branch” to push an offensive against Kurdish militia as rocket fire hit a border town in apparent retaliation.
Turkey is looking to oust from the Afrin region of northern Syria, the Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers a terror group.
