QUETTA: At least four police personnel were killed along with two other people with 17 injured on Tuesday after a powerful explosion rocked Quetta near the Balochistan Assembly building, according to local media reports.

The explosion took place near a parked police truck located in the city’s high-security Red Zone, around 300 meters from the assembly building.
“At least four policemen were martyred and 17 others including pedestrians were killed when a suicide bomber on a motorcycle struck the bus,” senior police official Abdul Razzaq Cheema told AFP.
There were no immediate claims of responsibility for the attack, he added.
Police personnel took positions around the provincial assembly building, while additional contingents were also called in following the blast.
According to reports, security officials said a bomb disposal team was also present at the location conducting a search and sweep exercise and examining the nature of blast. Local reports believe the blast was carried out by a suicide bomber on a motorcycle.
Quetta has been frequently targeted by insurgents in recent months. On December 17, nine people were killed and scores injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up near the prayer hall of a church in the city.
