DUBAI: Google is celebrating the life of Egyptian poet Farouk Shousha in today’s Google Doodle across the Middle East region.
Shousha, who was born in 1936, hosted the popular television program “Umsiya Thaqafiya” from 1977 to 2006 and was one of the Arab world’s most renowned contemporary poets.
The poet was born in Egypt’s coastal province of Damietta in February 1936 and he went on to be nicknamed the “Guardian of Arabic” due to his love of culture, poetry and literature.
When he died in October, 2016, at the age of 80, Egyptian Culture Minister Helmi Al-Namnam described Shousha as a “great poet and mentor.”
