DUBAI: Zamalek have sacked Montenegrin coach Nebojsa Jovovic following Wednesday’s loss to Talae El-Geish in the Egyptian Premier League, the club said.
Jovovic was hired to coach Zamalek just five months ago after helping the Jordanian club Al-Faisaly win the Arab Championship in Cairo.
Shortly after Zamalek’s 1-0 loss against Talae El-Geish, the club released a statement which read: “The board of directors, led by chairman Mortada Mansour, decided to sack Nebojsa after the defeat against El-Geish.”
Before he was dismissed, Jovovic was heavily criticized by fans, according to state-owned Egyptian daily AhramOnline, for making numerous changes in every game and failing to settle on a starting lineup.
During the Egyptian Premier League, Zamalek lost four games and fell nine points behind Ismaily football club and eight behind Ahly.
However, things seemed to turn in the troubled coach’s favor after three wins – but this was short lived and the team was defeated by Talae El-Geish.
Chairman Mansour said an Egyptian coach would be appointed before their match against Ahly, local media reported.
