KARACHI: A Malaysian citizen arrested from Karachi airport on Friday has been handed over to Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) for questioning, airport security force officials told.
Speaking at a news conference here at the ASF headquarters, Col. Navaid Direction Operations ASF, Col. Muhammad Atif Director Intelligence ASF and spokesman and Major Muhammad Aslam Chief Security Officer Jinnah International Airport, said the arrested Malaysian national Al Muhd Alfie Kqhyriel was clever and didn’t disclose anything during initial interrogation at the airport.
According to ASF news release, the suspect was later handed over to Inter-Service Intelligence for interrogation.
The ASF official refused to share further details, however, confirmed that the suspect had visited Peshawar during his week-long stay in Pakistan.
“Police should be questioned for his Peshawar visit,” Major Aslam said.
The arms, ASF officials said, were recovered at first International holdbag search counter where search of home appliances has made mandatory after the Sydney airport incident some months back.
“It may be a test attempt by the terrorists to see if arms in home appliances could be transported, which are allowed to be taken in luggage,” said ASF officials.
Al Muhd Alfie Kqhyriel was arrested at 4:30 on Friday evening, when he was checking in for Bangkok, Thai Airline Flight.
According to Col. Javaid, Nine other Malaysian nationals were flying on the same flight. After recovering of arms, all passengers on-board and their luggage was searched again before the plane was allowed to fly.
