Red car-d! UAE football match halted after driver invades pitch

LONDON: A UAE football game came to an abrupt halt this week thanks to a pitch invasion — by someone in a car.
The under-18s UAE league match between Al-Jazeera and Shabab Al-Ahly was suspended after the driver invaded the pitch for approximately 16 seconds, circling the players before speeding off.
The scene was captured by Sharjah Sports TV and widely shared on social media.
Some social media users who tweeted the video found it funny whilst others deemed the fan’s behaviour as reckless and dangerous. They include Twitter user @YalaGoal1 who commented that the fan’s actions could have “led to a disaster” at the match.
Mukalla9962 wrote on Sharjah Sports TV’s Instagram page that “We are in the UAE, a state where there is order and laws. This person should be prosecuted so that this doesn’t happen again.”
