PISJ-ES (Pakistan International School Jeddah — English Section) recently organized a spelling bee competition for students of classes 1 to 8.
The school authorities said the contest aimed at enhancing the students’ communication skills and learning the appropriate usage of words.
The program commenced with a recitation of the holy Qur’an, followed by the national anthem of Pakistan.
Principal Adnan Nasir said: “Such competitions are important, not because they provide a platform to the best spellers but because they give exposure to our students to explore the new avenues of the ‘world of words’ in their academic and future professional lives.”
He added: “Therefore, the objective of such competitions is not just to expect our students to spell the words correctly and win the competition but to help them learn discipline and how to tackle pressure and take decisions ... in all their future endeavours. By learning words, they develop their skills to communicate effectively, which is required in every aspect of life.” He urged the students to understand the power of words, which has the ability to “inspire and shatter” at the same time.
