JEDDAH: Vogue Arabia’s love affair with the Hadid family seems to be a never-ending one. With the backlash over its recent Bella and Gigi Hadid covers having just died down, the magazine decided to feature their brother, American model Anwar Hadid on its newest Vogue Man Arabia edition.
“Yes, we have been busy! After taking the Internet (and the world) by storm with Tamer Hosny and Rihanna @anwarhadid leads the digital launch of man.vogue.me,” wrote Vogue Arabia Editor-in-Chief Manuel Arnaut on Instagram.
Anwar wrote: “This was honestly one of the best times I had on set ever. I loved working with every single one of you!! Thank you!!”
Back in March, Gigi became the first person to grace the cover of Vogue Arabia in a move that outraged many who were hoping to see a cover star who lived in the Middle East. Bella’s Vogue cover met with similar fate, with critics accusing the half-Palestinian model of not being Arab enough. On Instagram, critics took to the comments to voice disparate opinions.
“Did you guys owe the Hadids a favor or something? Cause they stay making ya’ll look bad,” wrote @danact14
Another user, @raniariahi11 commented: “Enough Hadids please this is too much there are better and new faces move on.”
@_haneenm said: “We need to show the world our Arab icons and artists @voguearabia.”
“I don’t know until when Vogue Arabia will keep milking the faces of Hadid’s family like we don’t have beautiful real Arab faces in our part of the world,” said @venus_de_milo_0
Some welcomed the cover, comparing the model to a young Elvis Presley.
@dulcebysafiya wrote: “I thought this was Elvis for a minute!”
@muneer.kamel wrote: “That’s amazing ... all the best Anwar ... we all Palestinians (are) proud of you.”
