RIYADH: The number of marriage contracts issued by the Saudi Ministry of Justice in 2016 reached 148,816 at a daily rate of 408 contracts, Al-Hayat newspaper reported.
According to the ministry, these contracts were issued by 6,992 legally authorized marriage officiants across the Kingdom. The ministry also pointed out that 397 new marriage officiants were given licenses in 2016 to perform their duties.
The number of marriage officiants in Riyadh reached 1,914, which is the highest in the Kingdom, followed by 1,441 in Makkah, 1,106 in Asir, 490 in the Eastern Province and 53 in the northern border region.
The Ministry of Justice allows those who seek the services of marriage officiants to search on its online portal by entering the city and neighborhood in order to receive a list of available marriage officiants and their mobile numbers.
