Oman authorities destroy thousands of tons of fish over hygiene concerns

DUBAI: Omani authorities have destroyed thousands of kilograms of fish after it was discovered to have been stored incorrectly.
The 3,340kg of fish was destroyed by the Jalan Bani Bu Ali municipality the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in Oman confirmed according to Times of Oman.
“Jalan Bani Bu Ali Municipality conducted an inspection campaign on a center that stored and dried fish, and sold them to consumers. The amount of fish that was destroyed was 2,690 kg of salted fish, 350 kg of dried fish and 300 kg of fish that was stored in an unsafe manner,” the statement read.

The statement added that officers also found “a number of illegal” migrant workers, who were “cutting, preparing and drying the fish in an unhealthy manner with unhygienic equipment.”
The statement added that action was taken against the workers, without giving any details.
