JEDDAH: Security authorities in Alkhobar, in the Eastern Province, have arrested a man who allegedly tortured his son at a shopping mall in the city, after a video clip of the incident was posted on social media, prompting the launch of an investigation and the subsequent arrest.
The man, who was identified as an Egyptian, will be referred to the Public Prosecution, security sources said.
Alkhobar police discovered the identity of the man, an Arab resident in his 40s, the media spokesman of the Eastern Province police, Col. Ziyad Al-Rugaiti, said.
He said the man was arrested and is awaiting referral to the Public Prosecution, while the concerned parties were informed to investigate the condition of the child and take the necessary actions.
On his Twitter account, the ministry’s spokesman, Khalid Aba Al-Khail, said strict measures will be taken against the man who had tortured the child.
