ADEN: Recent images of one of the leaders of the so-called Houthi Popular Committees have highlighted the vast wealth amassed by the criminal gang leaders who have looted the central bank’s reserves.
Meanwhile Yemeni people live in a constant state of uncertainty, the country on the verge of a widespread famine and a cholera epidemic that is killing one person every hour.
In one of the images shared on social media a Houthi leader is seen celebrating in his basement apparently surrounded by millions of Yemeni riyals.
Sources inside Yemen said the leaders of the so-called Popular Committees connected to the family of rebel leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi were competing as they each squandered cash buying luxury cars for them and their children, as well as lavish homes in the affluent neighborhoods of the capital Sana’a.
The militants have been condemned for the Images that appeared on social media for showing the Houthi militia and their leaders’ “disrespect for the Yemeni people” who are suffering at the hands of criminal gangs.
The gangs stole the central bank’s cash reserves, the salaries of 1,200,000 employees and pillaged pension and social security funds and transferred the money to the Maran caves and imposed illegal levies.
