It is not unusual to see a police chase being shared on social media, but this video has captured the attention of literally millions of Facebook and YouTube viewers.
And it probably is not surprising, given that the offender is an American who appears to have been drinking while driving a scissor lift along a highway.
It has been viewed nearly 13 million times on Facebook and nearly 9 million on YouTube.
The video, taken from a police patrol car dashboard camera, begins with the policeman telling his control there is a man under the influence, driving what he refers to as a “skyjack.”
Soon after the officer sounds the car’s sirens and tells the offender to pull over.
The policeman casually walks toward the man and patiently inquires as to why the man is driving a scissor lift on a highway.
It then becomes clear that the man is sitting on a case of beer and has an open can in his hand.
When told to come down off the vehicle, the man refuses and raises the lift.
The conversation quickly escalates and the police officer gets a member of the fire service to winch the lift down.
The man is eventually restrained and arrested as the fireman is seen walking away, shaking his head in disbelief.
