Makkah: The Prime Minister of Iraq, Haider Al-Abadi, met with King Salman on Monday during a visit to the Kingdom, the Saudi Press Agency has reported.
The two leaders held talks, that were also attended by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, and a number of other senior officials from the two countries.
During the discussions views were expressed on the ongoing development of relations between the two countries, across all areas, especially on political, security, and economic and trade. They also touched on regional and international issues of common concern.
Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin also held talks with Abadi.
During the two sessions of talks, the two sides spoke highly of the ongoing improvement in relations between the two countries.
There was an agreement on the need to intensify efforts to quell the challenges faced by the Arab world, especially when tackling extremism and fighting terrorism.
The leaders expressed their determination to continue in their efforts to combat terrorist organizations, with a particular emphasis on Daesh. Meanwhile they went on to condemn all threats to their security and that of the region.
There was an agreement to establish a coordination council between the two nations, in a bid to further improve relations and open new areas of cooperation, included economic, commercial and in tourism.
Finally, Abadi expressed the Iraqi government’s gratitude for the support provided by the Kingdom in the reconstruction of Iraq.
