DUBAI: Stories of horrific scenes are coming from the tragic London tower blaze that has left several people dead and dozens injured.

According to Sky News, a resident in the burning building dropped a baby from a ninth or 10th floor window. Amazingly a member of public was able to catch the baby.

“I live near. You could see everything. This shouldn’t happen. People throwing babies out the window, what’s that all about? I was in tears this morning. I’m a big man. I was in tears. And this shouldn’t happen,” said Chris, a man who only wanted to give his first name while speaking to Arab News.

Flames were seen pouring out of the windows and licking up the side of the 24-story Grenfell Tower in London’s North Kensington throughout the night, as firefighters battled the blaze. A plume of smoke could be seen for several miles across the British capital.

Meanwhile the condition of the building has been criticized, one local resident at the scene told Arab News access was a problem, making rescue efforts increasingly difficult.

“The fire engine couldn’t get to the building. It’s always been like that... It’s crazy,” said Chris.

The Muslim population living in the building and the surrounding area has already been acknowledged as having saved many lives, as they were eating their suhoor when the fire first broke out in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services say there are six-known casualties, but warned that the death toll would likely increase. It is also not known how many people were in the building.
