DUBAI: British Prime Minister Theresa May has lost her parliamentary majority, plunging the country into uncertainty as Thursday’s vote resulted in a hung parliament.
In addition to the Conservative Party’s lackluster results, May was forced to take to the stage in her home constituency of Maidenhead with a motley crew of candidates — some dressed as cartoon characters.
Despite winning the constituency with 64.8 percent of the vote, May did not look too pleased, perhaps because her seat was contested 13-ways.
In comparison, the Independent’s sister website Indy100 reports that most English seats are only contested by four to six people.
Some of the most extraordinary candidates in her constituency included an independent candidate called “Lord Buckethead” and Bobby Smith, who came dressed as “Elmo” from the children’s TV show “Sesame Street.”
