DUBAI: A US weather channel is making international headlines for its response to President Donald Trump’s announcement on Thursday that the US would pull out of the Paris climate deal.
The Paris agreement laid out targets for countries to reduce air pollution and tackle climate change.
The Weather Channel responded by trolling the president with a complete revamp of its homepage — all the headlines are geared toward educating readers on climate change.
Some of the headlines on the page read: “So, what happens to the earth now?
“Still don’t care? Proof you should
.”..and more proof...
.”..and even more proof...”
The home page sent readers — including many who were simply checking the daily temperature — a message to pay attention.
Climate change “is real and backed by science and is happening now,” Neil Katz, the Weather Channel’s senior vice president and editor-in-chief, told The Washington Post.
“We wanted to make that point very clear,” Katz said.
The idea was thought up by the Weather Channel’s senior homepage editor, Eric Zerkel.
According to Katz, more than 30 million people visit the website daily, giving the platform a unique opportunity to educate a wide audience.
