RIYADH: To welcome the new ambassador, Khan Hasham bin Saddique , the Pakistani golf community in cooperation with Dirab Golf & Country Club on Friday organized a tournament in his honor.
The tandem of Tariq Khan and Syed Moiz combined to shoot a net score of 63 and emerge champion in the two-ball Texas Scramble 1st Pakistan Ambassador Golf Tournament 2017.
Filipino bankers Abner Macapagal and Philip Cortejos were the runners-up on 64 with another Pakistani pair of Shahid Rabbani and Sohail Inam taking the third position on 65 from a gross score of 74 and handicap of 22.
Ambassador Hasham won the longest drive award to give just a clue to his reputation of a scratch golfer who could give competition for so-called elite players in future tournaments at Dirab. The award for closest to the pin went to Ernst Grosskopt.
Hasham said he wants a bigger and better event than last Friday’s low-profile tournament with only Pakistani golfers and their friends participating.
The winning pair, with a team handicap of 9, enjoyed an even-par round of 72 (36-36) mixing two birdies and two bogeys.
Playing off 9 handicap, Macapagal and Cortejos were one over for the 18-hole round. Starting at No. 3, Alinma Bank’s Macapagal and Cortejos birdied the par-5 ninth hole and never dropped a shot from there for a 36 coming in. A late wobble hit the pair for bogeys on their last two holes.
DGCC through General Manager Golf Club Bouchaib El Jadiani sponsored the event with support from Marriott Riyadh GM Muin Serhan.
