JEDDAH: Ball is Life sealed its dominating run by beating New Cabalen Lulu 22-17 in the Non-Rated division final while Black Team won the Juniors Division crown at the close Friday of the MoneyGram 3on3 Championship at the Sheraton Jeddah Hotel Sport Complex basketball court.
In a sideshow to the championship matches in the fun four weeks event, the Yellow Team of coach Robert Jose and BJ Dormiendo defeated the Green team of coach Noel Miguel in the All Star game that saw the outstanding juniors play alongside the Non-Rated players.
Winning the three-point shootout was Xavier Firmalo while Arab junior standout Osama Brown earned bragging rights as the Slam Dunk King.
Ball is Life executed the big plays in the stretch with a rebound by Douglas Belmonte and an assist by Bigger Corpuz leading to pair of baskets from beyond the arc by Reynard Bangcat that set up their team’s 22-17 victory over New Cabalen Lulu.
Julius Devilla and Mark Marinas are the other members of the champion Ball is Life team which completed a six-game title sweep.
Runner-up New Cabalen Lulu was bannered by Chris Melebo, Eajay Macalagay, Anthony Villegas, Jason Villanueva and Marklen Sorizo.
The Black Team of Charles Granadino, Mohammad Salih, Gabriel Carbo and Ivan Flores won the Juniors title from the Green Team made up of Densen Dolloso, Nabil Domingo, Abdullah Abtahi and Nuh Bargas.
Named Most Valuable Players (MVPs) were Black’s Granadino and Corpuz of Ball is Life. The Most Promising Player awards went to Dolloso of Green Team and Eajay Macalagay of New Cabalen Lulu.
White and Black were the champion and runner-up teams in the Mosquito Division
The awards ceremony took place after the All Star game with MoneyGram Key Account Manager Ahmad Khasawneh and Mohamed Bayoumi, friend of the Filipino community and recipient of the Presidential Banaag Award, presenting trophies and medals to the winners.
MoneyGram’s Max Paleothorpe along with Khasawneh helped facilitate sponsorship of the event which also enjoyed the support of Donald Dolloso’s Samahan ng Kabataan sa Jeddah (SNKSJ).
The organizing FCBL headed by Miguel announced the regular tournament and second season of the group will start after the Ramadan on July 7.
