DUBAI: The Dubai Media Office Wednesday posted an impressive set of photos to its Twitter account, showing images of the city taken from space in 1977.
NASA released the photos, which show Dubai at various stages of its development – from a sandy desert to a light-studded metropolis.
The first image reveals a desert with very little infrastructure visible.
The last image, taken in 2017, is a different story altogether, with lights, roads and heavily built-up infrastructure visible from space.

What began as a small fishing village soon grew into an international hub with the turning point marked as the discovery of oil in the 1950s and 1960s, according to the Dubai Corporation of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.
