RIYADH: Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad, minister of culture and information, visited the offices of the Saudi Journalists Association and met its chairman, Khaled Al-Maik, and editors in chief of local newspapers.
The minister who was recently appointed listened to newspapers editors in chief to recognize what the ministry can do in regards of supporting their tasks aiming to implement a national media progress.
“Journalism is an essential and strategic partner,” Al-Awwad said. “We welcome (the concept of) teamwork and constructive criticism within the framework of responsible freedom.”
The minister was briefed on the association’s activities, and then discussed the obstacles facing journalistic work and how to improve it to best strengthen the position of the Kingdom in, and convey its voice to, the world with transparency.
The minister stressed the importance of journalism’s role in serving the society and serving the country’s strategy of national development that entailed a current stage of quantum transformation toward Vision 2030.
