JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s women’s basketball team Jeddah United (JU) won a friendly game against Paris University Club (PUC) with a score of 57-44 in Paris.
Shoura Council member Lina Almaeena, who is the co-founder of the Jeddah United Sports Co. (JUSC), said the match was part of a broader initiative to promote Vision 2030 via sports.
French Sen. Nathalie Goulet was present at the game, and presented Jeddah United with the French Senate gold medal.
Jeddah United, established in 2003, has taken part in several tournaments in the UAE, Jordan, the US, Malaysia, the Maldives and now France.
The JUSC aims to promote sports culture in the Kingdom, change stereotypes about Saudi women and build bridges between the Kingdom and other countries via sports.
The JUSC trains both men and women, and apart from the women’s basketball team, it also has divisions including men’s basketball, and men’s and women’s volleyball and football.
