DUBAI: New England Patriots star Rob Gronkowski crashed a White House press briefing Wednesday, leaving Press Secretary Sean Spicer visibly startled but causing the room to erupt in laughter.
The Patriots were visiting the White House to celebrate their Super-Bowl win.
Gronkowski was caught on camera popping in to a press briefing and quickly asked Spicer – who is no stranger to controversial gaffes – if he needed any help.
Spicer looks surprised but laughs the interruption off, saying “that was cool.”
President Donald Trump welcomed the team, sans several players, to the White House.
Noting that “pundits” had given the Patriots up for dead in February’s Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons, only to watch them clinch a last-minute victory, Trump quipped: “Good old pundits, boy, they are wrong a lot, aren’t they?“
He called the Patriots’ 34-28 overtime triumph “the greatest Super Bowl comeback of all time.”
Tom Brady was a late absentee from the visit. The high-profile player — who is married to Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen — said he had “personal family matters” to attend to.
A handful of other Patriots players had already opted out of the trip, some citing political differences with Trump.
