DUBAI: Camera footage of an escalator in a crowded Hong Kong shopping mall lurching out of control has gone viral since being posted online on Sunday.
CCTV footage captured the moment hordes of shoppers are seen gliding up an escalator before it suddenly malfunctions and speedily sends people back down, causing a pile up at the bottom of the escalator.
Seventeen people were injured in the incident at Mong Kok mall in Langham Place and one eyewitness told Gulf News: “I heard people screaming. The escalator was going down but the speed accelerated.
“People started to panic and some fell down.”
