This is with reference to the report “Land rush around Pakistan’s Gwadar port triggered by Chinese investment” (Feb. 24).
Every country has the right to protect its interests and to take measures to find ways to boost its economy. When it comes to the Gwadar port and the $57-billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CEPC) project, Pakistanis should think rationally and they should say no to all elements who are opposed to these strategic projects. These two projects are undoubtedly game changers in the region. According to the report in question, the route through Gwadar offers China its shortest path to the Middle East, Africa, and to most countries in the western hemisphere. Considering its strategic location, experts believe Gwadar will be a major trade route in the world. We hope that all sort of propaganda set to derail these projects will fail because China is determined to complete them at any cost.
Unfortunately, our next-door neighbor is reportedly creating problems for these projects. This animosity will lead us nowhere. India and Pakistan should join hands to fight poverty, illiteracy and corruption. Instead of creating hurdles for CPEC, India should cooperate with Pakistan so that people of both countries could achieve peace and prosperity.
Gwadar port is a game changer
