RIYADH: The Health Affairs Department in Riyadh suspended and referred a cosmetic specialist to the Shariah Commission after a girl’s two hands and one leg were amputated as a result of liposuction operation complications, reported Al-Madinah newspaper.
The department said that it had received a complaint from the girl’s mother against the Arab doctor who performed the operation. The mother said the operation involved injecting fat into the girl’s hips.
She said her daughter’s health deteriorated after the surgery and was admitted to a government hospital in Riyadh where doctors decided that as a result of complications it was necessary to amputate her hands from the wrists and the right leg from the knee.
The department said the preliminary interrogation of the doctor has taken place. The operation was performed at his clinic in a medical complex, which is a violation of regulations, it said.
An urgent committee visited the complex and found it failing to implement the Health Institutions Regulation with an administrative and medical organization that is below bar.
The operation room where the operation was performed lacked the essential vital-signs monitoring device, resuscitation cart and oxygen masks, which is a clear violation.
