LOS ANGELES: Egyptian political satirist Bassem Youssef was honored at an event on Sunday organized by the Los Angeles-based Muslims For Progressive Values (MPV), in Los Angeles, California. Youssef received the Badshah Khan Beacon of Truth Award, named after a Pakistani independence activist against the rule of the British.
Youssef has been called “The Jon Stewart of Middle East” as Stewart’s television program “The Daily Show” was the inspiration that led Youssef to begin his career as outspoken political critic.
MPV is a faith-based, grassroots, international human rights organization that embodies and advocates for the traditional Qur’anic values of social justice and equality for all.
