JEDDAH: A policeman was shot and killed as he stepped out of his car in the Al-Nour neighborhood of Dammam in the early hours of Saturday.
The assailants have not been identified, police said.

“At 1:10 a.m., Adel Bahloul Khardali, a soldier guarding public installations, was exposed to gunfire from unidentified sources as he got out of his car in Al-Nour neighborhood, northwestern Al-Dammam, which resulted in his martyrdom,” Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki, spokesman of the Interior Ministry, said.

He added: “The police are hunting for the criminal(s) and are investigating the possible reasons for the crime.”

The incident comes nearly two weeks after the Interior Ministry announced a blacklist of 9 wanted people (8 Saudis, one Bahraini) who are suspected of involvement in recent terrorist attacks that targeted citizens, residents and security personnel in Qatif and Dammam.

The ministry urged the suspects to surrender and warned citizens against dealing with them.

The Eastern Province has recently witnessed several terrorist attacks which have targeted policemen.
