Eleven-year-old Mohammed Amaan-ur-Rahman created a record of sorts by winning seven trophies in the 3rd Centerpoint-Middle East International School Open Table Tennis Tournament 2012 held in Riyadh recently.
The event went on for four days at the MEIS auditorium. Rahman, the Grade 6 student at Riyadh’s New Middle East International School (NMEIS), participated in all age group competitions (youth, junior, sub-junior and cadets) and emerged victorious. The tournament was a grand success with more than 20 schools from different parts of the Kingdom participating in it. There was strong contingent from the International Indian School-Dammam.
MEIS Principal Tabassum Farooqui, who is also the chief patron of the Table Tennis Academy, inaugurated the tournament. Also present were Francis D’Souza, marketing manager, Centerpoint, and M. Ziaur Rahman, president and coach, TT Academy. Farooqui praised the efforts of Ziaur Rahman and his team for organizing the tournament in a grand way. She emphasized the need for maintaining sporting spirit while achieving excellence.
The grand finale was witnessed among others by Naresh Sharma, general manager (operation), Centerpoint; Amanullah, managing director, Talalia Co.; Asrar Mufti, vice president, Schneider Electric; Mir Imaduddin, marketing manager, Al-Dour Co.; and Masood A. Khan, marketing manager, Nokia Siemens.

Cadet Girl’s Single — Zainab (IISD) winner; Rishita Erra (NMEIS) runner up. Youth Girl’s Doubles — Saleha Rahman and Wardha Talib (IISR) winners; Safura Khan and Saher Fatma (NMEIS) runners-up. Cadet Boy’s Doubles — Ananthu Shaji and Imaad Mufti (NMEIS) winners; Amaan-ur-Rahman and Essam Rahman (NMEIS) runners-up. Sub-Junior Boy’s Doubles — Mohammed Aves and Robert (NMEIS) winners; Ananthu Shaji and Essam Ahmed (NMEIS) runners-up.
