A member of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) was attacked on Friday evening, said Dbekhi Al-Dbekhi, the Haia’s official spokesman in the Eastern Province.
The Haia official was assaulted as he questioned a suspect in a case of blackmail.
The suspect had become agitated when the Haia official detained him for further investigation into the allegations. The official sustained light to moderate injuries and is being treated at a local hospital, where he was visited by the Haia chief.
The assailant has been handed over to police and now faces additional charges of assault on public servant on duty.
